Peltier module has two ceramic plates and thermoelements between them, when power supply is applied one plate gets hot the other cold. This makes is perfect for precision cooling or heating applications like calibration of thermo components, cooling of ICs etc. It can be also used in reverse - if you have cold or/and hot sources you can generate power!
