Title: Documentation links for STMP15x-SOM
Post by: TimSmall on December 09, 2022, 05:22:34 PM
Hi,

I noticed the documentation links for the STMP15x-SOM on the Olimex site aren't complete - are these available somewhere?

[Edit] - not to worry, I've found them - they are linked from https://www.olimex.com/Products/SOM/STMP1/STMP157-SOM-512/  but the "documents" link from https://www.olimex.com/Products/SOM/STMP1/ aren't working.

Also, the second page says "Gigabit Ethernet" - but I think this is an error, because the Schematics show that the Ethernet pins are not brought out, so it's impossible to use the Ethernet controller on the SoC.

Cheers,

Tim.

The information at https://www.olimex.com/Products/SOM/STMP1/ is supposed to contain information for whole stm32mp1 series chips. More like general information for stm32mp1 chips. It is inline with the official documentation by ST. Like here:

https://www.st.com/en/microcontrollers-microprocessors/stm32mp1-series.html

But I agree is a bit misleading. If the stm32mp1 chip has Gigabit Ethernet, you'd expect the SOM and the EVB would also have Gigabit Ethernet, but that is not the case with boards like STMP1(A13)-EVB and STMP157-SOM-512 which have only Megabit Ethernet exposed and available. The design went that way because of backwards compatibility consideration between STMP1(A13)-EVB and older A13-SOM designs. There is a newer STMP1 SOM board designed and on the way that would have Gigabit exposed.

Also notice that the STMP157-OLinuXino-LIME2 has Gigabit Ethernet: https://www.olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/STMP1/STMP157-OLinuXino-LIME2/open-source-hardware

OK, thanks.  Any ETA?  Very approximate is fine...

I can't say but we are in later stages of development. We have prototypes and Linux running but ironing out some hardware and software issues. Hence why I can't approximate - sometimes problems can be solved in few days, sometimes it might take weeks and more.
