Title: Maximum SATA Drive size for Olimex Lime 2?
Post by: myrcy on October 18, 2024, 05:04:08 AM
Hello everyone,
I hope this finds you well.
I was purchasing a SATA Drive for my Olimex Lime 2 when I realized that I am uncertain if there a maximum drive I can plug into the machine.

I know my USB reader only supports up to 4TB Drives. Is there a maximum for the Olimex Lime 2? Or can I plug in any drive?

Thank you so much for your help.

Hardware has no limitation about the size of the disk. Linux is the limiting factor but the maximum size is a looot (more than the size any single SSD can be).

There are two things to consider about the SATA drive:

- Max speed is 1.5Gbps SATA, no point of paying for faster disks
- It should be 5V SATA disk (not 12V)

Also if you wish to power the driver directly from the board or you don't have adapter consider this set:

We also resell some hard disks and SSDs here:

@LubOlimex Out of curiousity, does the size of the drive matter? Or can I use both 2.5 in, 3.5 in, etc. SATA drives?

No, as long as it is 5V drive. Notice that very often 3.5in drives require 12V, so double and triple check if the specific disk requires 12V.
