Title: Live-Neutral AC connectors in PWR-90-240V-* power supplies
Post by: ilario on January 08, 2025, 12:50:24 PM
Dear all,
I recently bought a PWR-90-240V-3.3V1.5A is AC-DC power converter which works with wide input voltage and provide 5W output 3.3V 1.5A (https://www.olimex.com/Products/Power/PWR-90-240V-3.3V1.5A/) power supply, for avoiding the problem described in this other forum post (https://www.olimex.com/forum/index.php?topic=9685.0).

Now I realized that the power supply as a L(live) and N(neutral) labelled connectors. Does it really matter if the AC wires are connected in the right way (L to live and N to neutral) or it is ok also if they are inverted?

Also, I don't have any connector that seems safe enough for plugging 220 V there (the holes are placed at a standard 5.08 mm distance, but the holes are too small for the connectors I have with that spacing). In my opinion, it would be useful to mention a recommended connector on the product page. And maybe even a recommended enclosure box for safely using it...

Hi,
There is no problem to switch L and N.
There is no dedicated connector this is module which people put on PCBs so standard header pins are used.
I recommend you to solder cable with plug if you intend to connect direcly to mains.
Be careful its High Voltage!

OK!
Thanks!
I will try with the 5-to-3.3V converter (https://www.olimex.com/Products/Breadboarding/BB-PWR-8009/open-source-hardware) first, and fall back to the 240V-to-3.3V one if I have problems with the first :)
