VGA from GPIO

Hi all,

On my A20, I currently have two displays connected through VGA and HDMI. However, as I'm currently developing a riser board to expose specific functionality I need (like a switching relay and multiple 5V outputs), I was looking into other types of video output, preferably the same connection type for both displays.
I'm now thinking adding two VGA connectors to my board. After some research, I found that it should be possible to output video signals in RGBHV 'format' through GPIO by using the correct FEX-settings, using lcd_if=0 in FEX. From what I understand, this is the same signal as is transmitted over VGA, so I'd expect that this could be wired up to a VGA connector. Am I correct? Has anyone tried this or something similar?
