AVR-ISP-MK2 Arduino MEGA 2560 "error in USB receive"

Hi there, I realize this topic has been posted about a few times, but none of the fixes or suggestions presented so far have been able to help me.

I've followed the instructions in the manual thoroughly. I've removed and reinstalled drivers. I've used previous versions of the Arduino IDE (1.57). I've tried uploading at the same time as resetting the board.

I'm using my own 10 pin to 6 pin adapter, but I've checked the wiring to ensure it is correct. I'm sure the board is receiving power because, but is there a way to ensure the rest of the wiring is correct?

This is the error I get:
