Using lattice HW-USBN-2B programming cable to program iCE40HX1K-EVB

I bought a bunch of these iCE40 boards, plus the recommended OLIMEXINO032U4 boards to program them. My intent is to port a system I have running on an Altera chip to the iCE40, but am linux illiterate, so have spent many hours trying to get the system running with no luck. I'm looking for straightforward instructions on connecting the lattice cable to the iCE40 board, so I can use the lattice iCEcube2 IDE and Diamond programmer, and focus on the VHDL model rather than the programming hw/sw.
