Hi,

Quite new to Olimex (and micro-controllers generally) - just been looking at PiHut and the Olimex products listed there. Very happy to see the POE board. I see the ESP32-EVB board has ethernet, but noticed it's not POE (understandable).

Question I have is there a future where ESP32-EVB has POE? It's an incredibly niche request and no doubt not worth the extra development time but it doesn't hurt to ask!

I'd be interested to know of ways I can 'add' POE easily ESP32 dev boards. Would dramatically cut down the amount of cable work I'd need to do!

Thanks for your time and sorry for the long winded post!

Hello and welcome to the forums. We have no intention to expand the ESP32-EVB design with PoE feature. Main reasons are that the design has no free pins and there is no free space on the PCB. We would have to basically to re-route and expand the whole board which would lead to compatibility problems for existing users of the board.

You can add external PoE extractor like MOD-POE-V2 in your setup, it will get the power from the PoE line and then you feed 5V DC to the power jack of ESP32-EVB and you still have Ethernet(without PoE) after the board to connect to the ESP32-EVB:

Or any PoE extractor that has 5V output would do the job.

By the way, if you are interested in relays and ESP32, maybe also check ESP32-C6 board:
