ARDUINO STK500_RECV(): PROGRAMMER IS NOT RESPONDING ERROR

Hi,

In Debian os i am getting an error like this "avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding" while uploading program to the arduino board using arduino ide.....How to fix this error, please help me.

Might be some problem with usb drivers, i searched lot of forums but not getting solution. Please fix this issue as soon as possible. Waiting for your reply.
