I'll stick to the forums, thanks. I don't care about real-time communication.

Hi everyone,

I have taken the liberty of creating an Olimex group on Riot.im, setting it as a public group so you can check it out, and copy/pasting in the HTML code on Olimex's "About" page into the group summary. I wanted to take the initiative to get this set up and, while I can certainly populate it with many resources, don't want to dictate the structure. I'm an independent contributor and would like it to satisfy the needs of Olimex and all fellow users.

The Riot.im page I created is located here: https://riot.im/app/#/group/+olimex:matrix.org

Benefits of leveraging Riot.im:

  • It's open source under the Apache2 license: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riot.im
  • It's a distributed system and allows for federation across many servers
  • Supports end-to-end encryption, groups, channels, and file sharing
  • It works in your browser of choice, and may also be installed using F-Droid, Google Play... I don't have an iPhone so I can't verify iOS.
  • Receive activity notifications

Drawbacks:

  • It may take a little time to set everything up appropriately?
  • ???

I'm not suggesting that Riot.im replace any existing web presence or tool, at least in the short-term, but I think a few improvements could be made to streamline communication to improve user interaction, community, and support. You guys are awesome and there's a lot of untapped potential here to work together and make great things happen.

What are your thoughts?
