If Ubuntu MATE runs on Teres, I would imagine you could get Lubuntu or Alpine maybe to work as well.  Have people put other Linux distributions than Ubuntu MATE and Armbian?  Thanks.

I had installed vanilla Debian (by "vanilla" I mean an installation solely leveraging debian-installer and not using any vendor tools) and documented the process on the Debian wiki.
