Programming the ice40hx1k

Hello, I have ordered an eval board for the above FPGA and am going through the documentation. The chip can be programmed from the on board Flash or from an external microcontroller. Does the Arduino sketch provided also allow programming the FPGA externally or only over the Flash?

Where can I find a sketch where I can program the chip directly? Thanks!
