Hello,

I just purchased an Olimex AVR-JTAG-USB-A from DigiKey. Followed the instructions online to ensure the COM PORT was 3 or 4 (mine was set as such automatically), and that the FTDI driver is assigned to the COM port (also assigned automatically).

I connected to target PCB to perform onboard programming. The only LED, red LED turns ON on the AVR-JTAG-USB-A.

I then opened Microchip Studio v 7.0.2594 used on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

I cannot find the programmer in the "Tools" menu (I am trying to load a hex file onto it). The only thing that shows up is "Simulator". I then tried to use Zadig and load libusb-win32(v1.4.0.0). Still no fix.

What am I missing?

Thank you!

AVR-JTAG-USB is a complete analog of Atmel JTAG ICE mkI (AVR Studio thinks it works with original ICE). It is supported by software up to AVR Studio 4.

You can find AVR Studio 4 in the archives here, just scroll down:

https://www.microchip.com/en-us/tools-resources/archives/avr-sam-mcus

ATMEL and Microchip do not support this product (nor the original Atmel JTAG ICE mkI) in newer software environments (AVR Studio 5 and ATMEL Studio 6 and ATMEL Studio 7 and Microchip Studio)!

This is mentioned multiple times on the web-page of the device.
